Migrant Education Program and the San Luis Valley Consortium
Monte Vista School District works in conjunction with MEP and BOCES to ensure students receive quality services and resources. As a part of the Valley Consortium, MVSD faculty and staff are provided professional development opportunities and funding for student or teacher resources.
MEP provides funding and services for qualifying students. A migrant student is any student whose family has worked in agriculture and has relocated in order to seek work. More information is available in our district guidebook.
Many migrant students are English Learners therefore MEP works closely with MVSD faculty and staff to coordinate events like "Lectura en Mi Familia", a family literacy night in the fall and spring, and also invite MEP qualifying students to attend leadership or STEM workshops and a CLOSE-UP trip to Washington, D.C..
